Trails · Last updated 29 June 2026

The short version: Trails doesn’t track you. No account, no login, and your location stays on your phone — unless you choose to report a new trail to OpenStreetMap.

Your location stays with you

Trails uses your phone’s GPS to show where you are, help you follow trails, and record your rides — and that happens entirely on your device. Your routes and recorded rides are never sent to us or stored anywhere off your phone. The pins you drop stay on your device too.

Reporting a new trail (optional)

If you ride a trail that isn’t on the map yet, Trails can help you contribute it to OpenStreetMap, the free community map. This only ever happens when you tap “Report to OpenStreetMap” and confirm — nothing is shared automatically.

When you do, the GPS line of that one trail segment and the difficulty you picked are posted as an anonymous public note on OpenStreetMap (no account, nothing that identifies you), so a community mapper can add the trail. Because OpenStreetMap is an open map, that note — including the trail’s location — is publicly visible and kept as part of the public record. Only the segment you report is shared; the rest of your ride is not.

What we actually collect

Only anonymous basics that tell us the app is being used: a count of app opens, the app version, and your device type. None of it is location, none of it identifies you, and there’s no account behind it.

Subscriptions

Your subscription and free trial are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details.

Things we never do

We don’t sell your data, show ads, or let anyone else track you.

You’re in control

Turn off location access anytime in iOS Settings — the map still works. Delete the app and your pins go with it.
